How To Turn Words Into Graphic Communication

The simple idea of using words as communication is taken to a new level by using this simple tool called Wordle. Enter your text, select Go and you instantly produce a graphic representation that’s pleasing and interesting. Hit the Randomize button for even more fun.

We love this tool for its simplicity and versatility in the classroom.

Ideas for use:

  1. Collaborate as a class to discuss trends and themes.
  2. Write goals for the year and display them visually.
  3. Create art from a student’s poem.
  4. Compare Presidential speeches to show trends in national sentiment.
  5. Create chapter summaries.
  6. Decorate your classroom with a story created by the class.

The ideas for information visualization are endless and I’m sure you’ve already thought of a great way you can use this in your classroom.

Here are a few examples we found on the site.

  1. US Constitution
  2. Barack Obama Inaugural Address
  3. Vocabulary List
